Suspect who Shot at Detroit Police from Moving Car Arrested
Detroit police arrested a man accused of hanging from the window of a moving car and firing shots at officers trying to make a traffic stop in a weekend incident was captured by a department dashboard video camera.
The shooting happened at around 4 a.m. Saturday when a Detroit police drag racing detail spotted a man hanging out of a car's window. While police followed the vehicle, the man fired eight shots at police, striking the cruiser's engine block and roof—just a few inches from an officer's head.
"When I saw the video I was angry, I think this community is angry, and we are not going to tolerate this," said Police Chief James White.
A tip following the shooting led a Detroit police taskforce to four suspects at a home in the city's Ninth Precinct late Tuesday, WJBK-TV reports. Police apprehended three of the suspects during a traffic stop after they left the house.
The fourth suspect, who was still inside the home, was arrested after the taskforce obtained a warrant. Investigators believed this suspect was the gunman in Saturday's incident.
No information was released concerning charges or the identities of the suspects.
