San Diego Harbor Police shot and critically wounded a man who brandished a gun outside headquarters Sunday.
The incident happened at around 1:30 p.m. when a person pulled into the Port of San Diego Harbor Police headquarters and used a call box, KSWB-TV reports. When an officer walked out to the car, a man inside pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officer.
The officer immediately got away from the vehicle and found cover. He then called for help and opened fire at the vehicle.
Responding to the officer's call, a lieutenant and a sergeant went outside and also began firing. The man in the vehicle was struck by gunfire.
The suspect was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.
The officers in the shooting were not identified, but the first officer has been with the harbor police for seven years. The lieutenant and sergeant are veterans with the agency, both serving for over 20 years.
The shooting is under investigation.
