Two people were jogging in an Oklahoma neighborhood when a bullet hit one in the leg, police said.
Officers arrived at the elementary school and applied a tourniquet to the runner’s leg, Tulsa police said in a June 1 Facebook post.
As people tended to the injured person, the suspected shooter reappeared from behind fire trucks parked at the scene and shot at officers, first responders and community members trying to help the victim, police said.
The accused shooter, a 30-year-old man not identified by police, fled in his vehicle as officers chased after him, according to authorities.He led police through residential streets and into a cul-de-sac where he got out of his car with a gun, police said.
The man opened fire, and police said they fired back and fatally struck the man.
The district attorney’s office will take over the shooting investigation and the officers involved were placed on administrative leave per standard protocol, officials said.
