NYPD Officer Dragged Several Feet Trying to Stop Gunman in Van

Sept. 29, 2022
An NYPD officer responding to reports of a man brandishing a firearm in the Bronx tried to stop the suspect by grabbing on to the van the gunman sped away in.

An NYPD cop was dragged across a Bronx street as he tried to stop a van driver with a gun Wednesday, police said.

Officers were called to Clinton Ave. near E. 181st St about 8:30 a.m. on a report of a man brandishing a firearm, according to cops.

When police arrived, they were told that the gunman had jumped into a white van and drove off.

Police found and stopped the van about six blocks away, at the corner of E. 179th St. and Arthur Ave. But when cops approached the vehicle on foot, the van driver hit the gas and sped off.

An officer attempting to stop the van was dragged for several feet before he was thrown from the vehicle. The cop bashed the van window as he tried to get the driver to stop.

EMS rushed the officer to an area hospital with a minor back injury.

The van driver abandoned his wheels a few blocks away and ran off. No arrests have been made.
