Gunman Fires into Occupied Ala. Police Car in 'Unprovoked' Attack

Sept. 22, 2022
Authorities aren't sure what motivated a 32-year-old man to allegedly fire shots at a Mobile police vehicle with officers inside and two unoccupied buildings.

Mobile police arrested the alleged gunman in a Tuesday night shooting at a police car on Flicker Drive.

Valeido L. Davidson, 32, was arrested late Wednesday and booked into Mobile Metro Jail on charges of shooting into an occupied vehicle and two counts of shooting into an unoccupied dwelling.

The incident occurred in the 1600 block of Flicker Street around 8:50 p.m.

While officers were in the area near Michigan Avenue and Duval Street, an “unknown male” began firing at their vehicle and two unoccupied buildings, according to a Mobile police spokeswoman.

No one was injured.

Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine told a local TV news outlet on Wednesday that the shooting was unprovoked.

He also said the police officers did not shoot back.
