A 19-year-old who opened fire at a car blocks from the Chicago Police Department headquarters was due in court Wednesday, according to police.
Demarquez Nelson, of the 1500 block of South Keeler Avenue, stepped into the street in the 3400 block of South Indiana Avenue about 12:50 p.m. and started shooting, police said. The police department headquarters is a block west and a block south of where the shooting happened.
Three officers in an unmarked car saw the shooting and gave chase.
Nelson was later caught and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm at a vehicle, aggravated assault to a police officer, and unlawful use of a weapon near a school, police said.
Nobody was injured in the shooting.
An officer also opened fire but did not hit Nelson, police said. Nelson lives in the 1500 block of South Keeler Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood.
