April 24--NORFOLK -- Four men, one with a gunshot wound, were under arrest this morning after what police said was an attempted robbery of two officers at a McDonald's in the 1000 block of Campostella Road.
The officers were working in plain clothes and were in separate unmarked vehicles in the parking lot of the restaurant about 11 p.m. Monday when two armed men approached and tried to rob them, said Officer Chris Amos, a police spokesman.
The vehicles were parked beside each other and were backed into the spaces, according to Amos. The two men who approached wore masks and dark clothing and carried handguns. One of the men approached one officer's driver's side window while the other man approached the other officer's passenger side window. The officers pulled out their own guns and fired at the men, who ran away, Amos said.
Three men were located about an hour after the shooting, according to Amos. A fourth man, who suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, was located at Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital. Two of the men were believed to have been in a car near the location of the shooting.
Police are obtaining warrants charging the four men with attempted robbery and use of a gun during a felony.
The officers involved, who work for the vice and narcotics section, were not hurt.
No other information was immediately available.
The restaurant is at the Indian River Road intersection.
