Feb. 19--A police officer was shot this afternoon on the city's South Side, officials said.
The shooting happened on the 6700 block of South East End Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood, according to Larry Langford, a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department.
Citing preliminary information, two law enforcement sources said the officer was shot in the hand. One of those sources said a second person may have also been shot.
According to Chicago Fire Department media information, another man was taken from the scene to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County; he was in serious condition from gunshot wounds.
The officer was taken by police to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in good condition, said Langford, who said the wound was in the officer's arm.
According to Chicago Police Department News Affairs, an officer was shot, but no further information was available.
