Dec. 25--The aftermath of a teen party at Club Fathom downtown has left nine people shot and suffering from various injuries, according to the Chattanooga Police Department.
The most seriously injured was a 17-year-old youth who was hit in the pelvis and immediately taken to a local hospital to undergo surgery, CPD spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary said in a news release.
Police responded to 400 Cherry St. about midnight Saturday after receiving calls that several people had been shot. Weary said an off-duty policeman who was working an extra job at Club Fathom, where a Christmas party for teens was being held, reported he had fired at a suspect whom he said had pointed a gun at him during the shootings. The officer was not hit during the incident.
At the same time, police responded to 1202 Poplar St. on a shooting call. Details about this incident are developing, Weary said.
Investigators are currently working at both locations.
Weary said details about both shooting incidents are inconclusive because of the number of victims and potential number of suspects.
"This is a lengthy investigation which will take investigators some time to verify information," Weary said.
In addition, while responding to the shootings downtown, traffic investigators also responded to a call of a vehicle that had run into a building near Dodds Avenue and East 23rd Street. No other details are available on this crash, Weary said.
