PITTSBURGH

The holiday rush came to an abrupt halt at the Bloomfield post office on Wednesday.

Police said the office was robbed at gunpoint around 1 p.m. Investigators said the officer was packed with customers who had no idea a gunman was among them.

"He was in line with other customers. When it was his turn to approach the window he brandished a firearm and demanded money," said Cmdr. Timothy O'Connor, Pittsburgh police.

Pittsburgh police said the gunman was wearing a Steelers jacket with a gray-hooded sweatshirt underneath. Investigators said he got away with an undetermined amount of cash.

Police said the man ran across Liberty Avenue toward Friendship.

The post office remained closed for several hours as postal inspectors and police interviewed witnesses.
