An Alpharetta police officer shot seven times by a suspect earlier this month is walking again and hopes to be back at work soon.
Officer David Freeman was shot in the lower abdomen, a shoulder and one of his legs by Curtis Hicks during a traffic stop on April 12, according to The Associated Press.
After he was hit, the officer was able to take cover and return fire while calling for help.
Police said that Hicks also wounded a civilian before leading officers on a pursuit, resulting in a shootout that ended in his death.
On Sunday, Freeman walked slowly with a cane into North Point Community Church and received a standing ovation.
He told the congregation that he's been undergoing physical therapy in hopes of returning to work.
"I want to get back to work," he said. "I love my job, I love the guys I work with and I want to get back to it."
