It is also responsible for a high level of Accidental Discharges. This is due to two factors; the Cross Bolt Safety and people do not train as much on shotguns as they do on their AR’s and handguns.
Utah based Signature Solutions has created the S2-USA safety, the world’s first AR style selector switch safety for shotguns. Currently, S2-USA is available for all Remington and Benelli shotguns; retrofits for other cross bolt safety shotguns are currently being tested. The company’s mission is to utilize “Continuity of Training” for making the shotgun safer and more operator friendly. This is for anyone who, in a high-stress situation, turns to their shotgun for self defense or for tactical operations.
The company was founded by former BIA special agent Judd Erickson, who after a 20 year career in law enforcement understood the need for a safer, more user friendly answer to the traditional safeties on shotguns.
The position of the S2-USA safety allows the operator of the shotgun to engage the weapon and then make it safe without removing their trigger finger from the trigger guard. This process further enhances the speed of engagement and safety when the operator is wearing gloves. In many cases the proper engagement of the traditional cross bolt safety is problematic when the operator is using gloves since it is hard to feel the full engagement or release of the safety.
