FM53

Jan. 30, 2009

Avon Protection Systems' technically advanced protective mask system, the FM53, is now certified to NIOSH CBRN APR standard cap1 with the CBRNF12B filter canister. This certification follows previous NIOSH industrial approval under Title 42, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 84 (42 CFR 84) for the FM53 Air Purifying Respirator with the CTF12 riot agent canister.

The FM53 system was developed to address the multiple threats encountered on the modern battlefield, war on terrorism and peace keeping operations around the world.  It provides protection against traditional chemical and biological warfare agents, select Toxic Industrial Materials (TIMs) and particulate matter, including radioactive dust threats to the operator.  The FM53 meets the unique requirements of special operations units, such as first responders (hazmat and CBRN), law enforcement, decontamination teams, clandestine drug lab entry and remediation, specialist entry teams, chemical spill clean-up, bio identification and clean up, SWAT teams, bomb squads, specialist correctional officers, and FBI.

The FM53 is the only tactical mask system available that enables users to operate the mask with all recognized modes of Respiratory Protective Equipment.  A patented Variable Resistance Exhalation Unit (VREU) allows the mask to function as a negative and positive pressure mask system.  Users can easily rotate the VREU Lever to switch between negative pressure and positive pressure modes. This allows the FM53 to function as a stand-alone APR, or as an SCBA, PAPR or CCBA.

Special note: NIOSH does not certify or approve respirators for multi-functional, combination use. The FM53 is NIOSH certified for CBRN protection under 42 CFR 84 as an APR only. The use of the FM53 as a means for CBRN protection with an SCBA, PAPR or CCBA has not yet been approved or allowed by NIOSH.

A low-profile soft-face piece and clear cheek for weapon sighting benefit tactical specialists, providing improved visibility and comfort.  Additionally, the FM53 is equipped with Electronic Communications Port for integrated Voice Projection Unit and radio communication, allowing users to operate in stealth or commanding modes.
