CRESCENT CITY, California -- A Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office deputy provided life-saving aid to an injured dog after responding to a call about loose animals last week.
Del Norte County Dispatch received a report of two dogs running loose near the 1300 block of Harrold Street in Crescent City at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 21, according to a news release.
Deputy Rager responded and located the animals, identified as a tan pit bull and a German shepherd.
While making contact with the dogs, Deputy Rager observed a severe injury to the German shepherd’s front leg. He immediately applied a bandage to control the injury and contacted a veterinarian to arrange emergency medical care.
Following treatment, the veterinarian determined the dog would not have survived its injuries without the deputy’s prompt intervention, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
