HARRIS, Oklahoma -- Recently released dashboard camera video shows a Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper help rescue three small children from a truck overturned in water on Valentines Day.
Trooper Cody Enloe was the first on the scene after he responded to reports of a single vehicle rollover with multiple people trapped in the community of Harris on US 259 South on Feb. 14 around 6:15 p.m., according to a news release.
Enloe, who was assisted by McCurtain County Sheriff's deputies and Haworth Volunteer firefighters, hooked up the Jaws of Life all while the screams of the children inside the vehicle could be heard.
The trooper stood in knee-deep water as he guided firefighters in the use of the Jaws of Life and manually pried on the doors of the truck until access to the passenger compartment was gained.
When the door to the truck was opened, Enloe began extricating children from the back seat. He handed the first child -- a toddler -- to a firefighter, and then cut a seat belt handed a second child -- an infant -- to a deputy. At that time, responders began to walk away from the vehicle, but Enloe climbed into the partially submerged, upside-down truck head first.
He came back out with another infant in a car seat. The infant's nose and lips were already turning blue and Enloe immediately began infant back trusts, causing fluid to expel from the infant's mouth.
He brought the infant to the waiting ambulance, where the infant begin to cry.
"There is no doubt in my mind that Trooper Enloe saved the lives of those three children," McCurtain County Deputy Curtis Fields said in a message sent to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. "I have been in law enforcement in the state of Oklahoma for 10 years now, and have seen many horrific, and incredible things in my career.
"The professionalism and competence that was exhibited by Trooper Cody Enloe on this day will be something I remembered for the rest of my life and was nothing short of incredible. Trooper Cody Enloe, while being a first-year trooper, performed with all the skill and professionalism of a veteran officer."
