Manatee County Sheriff's deputies passing through a neighboring county in Florida jumped into action to save a choking baby on Tuesday.

The group of deputies was passing the Springfield Community Building in Bay County when a distressed mother and father approached them, according to a news release.

The couple's 4-month-old baby was choking and was almost lifeless.

Manatee County Deputy Patti Smith was able to dislodge a small object and clear the baby's airway.

Sgt. Richard Kelleher and Lt. Richard Rietz assisted in the rescue efforts and several other deputies were on hand to provide backup.

"There is nothing like being in the right place at the right time," the Bay County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook. "It was the right time for the Manatee County deputies to be in Bay County to help us."

Officials said that it appears that the baby will be OK.
