SALEM, Ore. --
A 16-year-old boy was in critical condition Wednesday after he was shocked with a Taser by a state police trooper, police said.
State police Lt. Gregg Hastings said a SWAT team encountered the boy while serving one of several Salem-area search warrants at 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Hastings said the teen refused to comply with their commands and actively resisted efforts to be taken into custody.
A trooper used a Taser on the teen, but he continued to resist, Hastings said. While resisting arrest, the boy became unconscious, police said.
Hastings said a SWAT medic immediately started emergency medical care with the help of the troopers. Paramedics responded and also worked with SWAT until the teen was taken by ambulance to Salem Hospital.
Hastings said the boy will be transferred to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland for further treatment.
The boy's name has not been released. He did not live at the home where the search warrant was served, police said.
Another man and woman were at the home during the search. Police said the man was arrested without incident.
Salem police and the Marion County District Attorney's Office are now investigating the use of force incident. As of 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, no other information was available.
