A traffic stop of a man wanted by Interpol last week turned into a five-hour vehicle and foot chase as Florida deputies tracked down and apprehended the suspect.

The incident happened at about 3:45 p.m. Dec. 4 when deputies in the St. Johns Sheriff's Office Task Force stopped a vehicle on Interstate 95, the agency stated in a social media post. A deputy was talking with the driver—identified as Tomal Rico Bowe , 33—when the man sped off, traveling into wrong-way traffic.

Deputies used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle, but Bowe was able to flee on foot and steal another vehicle from a business complex. As the pursuit continued, deputies deployed stop sticks, which disabled the vehicle.

But the chase didn't end there. Bowe continued to flee on foot into a heavily wooded marsh area. The sheriff's office's air unit was able to locate Bowe, and ground units, including Jacksonville Sheriff's Office K-9 teams, were able to take him into custody.

Bowe had been wanted in the Bahamas for aggravated robbery, and Interpol listed him as an armed and dangerous fugitive. He also had warrants in Broward County for meth possession and resisting police.

Bowe faces additional charges for fleeing and eluding law Enforcement, grand theft motor vehicle and marijuana possession.
