Brad Paisley fans had cause for pause during a recent show in Connecticut when police swarmed the stage and surrounded the singer.
Video from the concert showed officers standing around the singer, arms crossed.
“They’re the ones that said this is a speed trap,” Paisley said pointing out at the crowd. “Not me.”
He then handed each officer a guitar pick and said, “It’s not a bribe.”
Fans were catching on at that point and laughing along as it all played out.
Paisley then stepped back up to the mic and immediately broke into his song, “Mr. Policeman.”
“I’m in the jailhouse now. I’m in the jailhouse now,” he sang. “They told me once or twice. Son, respect my authority. I’m in the jailhouse now.”
What might have had folks thinking the star of the show was headed up the road, was actually a planned skit involving the local Bridgeport Police.
“Last night was one for the books,” Bridgeport Police wrote while sharing the video to Facebook.
“To Brad Paisley and his crew, thank you for standing with law enforcement and showing that support in a such a meaningful way,” the department added.
The Blast noted that when Paisley was through with “Mr. Policeman,” he avoided the cuffs, and instead exchanged handshakes with the officers onstage.
“I was there last night and what I saw was awesome,” one person commented on the Bridgeport Police’s post. “When those officers came on stage the place went wild. Say what you want about country music lovers and rednecks from the south and north. We respect and appreciate the men in blue. Thank you.”
“Can’t get much better than that,” another wrote. “What an honor to be onstage with Brady Paisley! Thank you BPD for your bravery, service and dedication. Stay safe!”
