Fla. Police Officer Wounded in Easter Celebration Shooting
A Lake City police officer was helping to work crowd control during an Easter event at a recreation center when a fight broke out between attendees and shots were fired.
Fulton and South Fulton police were investigating a "suspicious individual" at a motel when a shooting erupted, injuring an officer from each department and leaving a suspected gunman dead.
A Florida police officer was shot and wounded during an Easter celebration Sunday, and three people were taken into custody stemming from the incident.
The shooting happened shortly after 8 p.m. as Lake City police and other law enforcement agencies were helping with a crowd during an Easter event at Annie Mattox Recreation Center, WTLV-TV reports. That's when a fight broke out between several attendees.
"As officers and deputies attempted to intervene, gunshots were fired, and one Lake City Police Department officer was struck by gunfire," police stated in a news release.
Police detained three people in connection with the shooting. The wounded officer was rushed to the hospital and was talking with medics.
