Video: Calif. Police Officer Interrupts Armed Robbery of Convenience Store

Jan. 19, 2024
The timely entrance of a West Covina police sergeant thwarted an accused armed robber who tried to take off with roughly $400 from a convenience store cash register.

A California police officer foiled an armed robbery Wednesday when he walked into a convenience store as the crime was happening.

The incident happened at about 8:30 p.m. at a 7-Eleven in West Covina, KABC-TV reports. Security camera footage shows a man with a face mask buying cigarettes at the counter.

When the clerk put the cigarettes in a bag, the man appeared to show a gun tucked in his waistband. The clerk then began taking money from the register and putting it in the bag.

The clerk was putting the last of the money in the bag when a West Covina police sergeant walked into the store. The sergeant was alerted to what was happening by the clerk, and the suspect fled with the officer right behind him.

The suspect was nabbed by police, and a loaded handgun and roughly $400 were recovered.

It's the second time in less than a week that a southern California law enforcement officer interrupted a robbery in progress at a convenience store. On Saturday, a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy helped apprehend four suspects after he stopped at a 7-Eleven in Carson and found the individuals trying to rob the business.
