LAPD officers needed to smash the window of a stolen Tesla early Wednesday in order to apprehend an apparently "sleeping" suspect inside, according to police.
Police had located the stolen vehicle at about 3 a.m. in the Los Angeles' Westlake neighborhood, KTLA-TV reports. Officers had help finding the car thanks to the Tesla's owner tracking it remotely.
While tracking the Tesla, the owner found that the vehicle hadn't moved for some time, and officers were able to converge on that location. At the scene, police discovered a suspect inside, but the individual appeared to be asleep or intoxicated.
When the suspect didn't respond to repeated commands, an officer used a baton and another tool to break the driver's side window. The glass eventually gave way, and police were able to unlock the door and reach the individual.
The suspect was handcuffed and taken into custody. No details were released concerning charges against the suspect or the suspect's condition.
