The 33-year-old victim was stabbed up to seven times, sustaining wounds to his neck and torso, as he fought off the would-be robbers, sources said.

The two suspects fled on an e-bike, but the off-duty cop gave chase, pursuing them for about two blocks to Rochambeau Ave. near E. 206th St., where he collapsed.

“He got stabbed, and he was chasing the guy,” said a witness, who asked that his name be withheld. “He chased the guy, and that’s where he collapsed, in front of the building where I was sitting. We know him from the neighborhood, so we know he’s a cop.”

Video obtained by the Daily News shows police assisting EMS in lifting the wounded detective off the street, where blood can be seen pooling along the curb, and onto a gurney.

Medics rushed the victim to Jacobi Hospital, where he’s expected to survive. Both Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch and Mayor Mamdani visited him in the hospital.

“I visited the detective and his family at Jacobi Hospital with Police Commissioner Tisch,” Mamdani said in a post on X. “He is thankfully in stable condition, and I am hoping for his quick and complete recovery.”

“I am confident that the NYPD will identify and apprehend the suspects and that the people responsible will be held to account.”

Police are searching for the suspects, who fled empty-handed, police sources said.

The victim’s Mustang could be seen on the street with its trunk open Friday evening, with the victim’s gold chain and his backpack lying nearby on the ground.
