Massachusetts police used a need for a haircut to collar a suspect wanted on an active warrant last week.

The arrest happened Thursday when members of the Fall River Police Department's Community Action and Suppression Team on patrol spotted Elijah Jones walking into a barbershop, the department stated in a social media post. Detectives confirmed Jones was wanted on an active warrant, and they followed him into the shop.

When Jones sat down in the barber chair, he was approached by police, who took him into custody. Jones was handcuffed, but he tried to flee on foot only to run directly into detectives outside the barbershop.

A search of Jones recovered a 9mm firearm that had been reported stolen in Georgia. A folded dollar bill hiding a small amount of cocaine also was found.

Jones faces multiple firearms charges and other counts.

"The ability to conduct proactive policing plays a critical role in enhancing the safety of our community," the department stated. "The continued dedication and vigilance of our officers, particularly those who are familiar with the individuals and neighborhoods they serve, allows us to identify and apprehend dangerous offenders and bring them before the courts."
