FLINT, MI—A Flint police officer is recovering after being repeatedly shot in the line of duty.
About 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, the officer was in the 6600 block of Colonial Lane, attempting to intervene as a wanted offender assaulted his ex-girlfriend with a firearm. The wanted man shot the officer multiple times.
Fellow officers drove their wounded colleague to an area hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition. His status has since been upgraded to stable.
Flint Police Chief Terrence Green did not provide the officer’s name.
The suspect fled in a vehicle but was quickly arrested by other officers. Police are searching for a second suspect as of Wednesday morning, April 1.
MLive is not disclosing the arrested man’s name until he has been arraigned on criminal charges in Genesee County District Court.
Michigan State Police detectives are investigating the shooting.
Green extended his sincere appreciation to the MSP, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department, the Burton Police Department, the Flint Township Police Department, and the University of Michigan–Flint Department of Public Safety for “their prompt response and assistance during this critical incident.”
