A Baltimore Police officer was shot Tuesday in Northwest Baltimore and taken to Shock Trauma.

Police officials said a suspect was also shot, advising people to avoid the surrounding areas.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said the officer was responding to a barricade situation when the shooting occurred.

“Earlier today, a @BaltimorePolice officer was shot while responding to a barricade situation at a residence in Northwest Baltimore. I just arrived at Shock Trauma where the injured officer was transported,” Scott wrote on X.

The shooting was reported in the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue, which is in the Glen neighborhood, just south of Cross Country. The officer’s condition was not immediately known. Police have set up a media staging area at Shock Trauma.

Baltimore County medics also responded to assist at the scene.

Radio traffic indicated a “Signal 13” — a police call indicating an officer in distress — had been transmitted. Officers had reportedly been responding to a possible hostage situation before shots were fired.

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown said the state’s Independent Investigations Division responded to the scene.

“The Independent Investigations Division (IID) is on the scene of an officer-involved shooting in the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue in the city of Baltimore, Maryland,” Brown wrote on X.

The Baltimore Fraternal Order of Police said union leaders were supporting officers involved in the incident.

“We are aware of the police involved shooting in the NWD. President Mancuso and State Trustee Cohen are at homicide with our involved members while Guard Glazerman is at Shock Trauma. All involved members are in good spirits,” the union said in a statement.
