Virginia police officers stopped a robbery in progress at a 7-Eleven store early Monday.

Fairfax police responded to a report of a robbery at the business at about 5 a.m., WUSA-TV reports. When officers reached the store, they found the robbery was still in progress.

Police were able to stop the crime and take a juvenile into custody. The suspect is accused of assaulting a store clerk and demanding access to the register and a store safe.

 

The store clerk was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. The suspect allegedly struck the clerk multiple times in the face.

 

Police took the juvenile to the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center, where a robbery petition was obtained.
