Mich. State Police Trooper Ensures Family Stays Warm in Winter
What to know
-
A Michigan State Police trooper assigned to the Gaylord Post assisted a juvenile victim’s family facing a winter heating emergency during a criminal investigation.
-
After learning the child’s grandparent was at risk of running out of propane, the trooper coordinated with the State Trooper Outreach Partnership to secure a refill through the propane company.
-
The agency highlighted the effort as an example of community-focused policing that went beyond the trooper’s investigative duties.
Going beyond the badge is exactly what one Michigan State Police trooper did. What could have ended as routine paperwork became an opportunity to make a real difference.
While investigating a criminal complaint involving a juvenile victim, the trooper learned the child was living with a grandparent who was struggling financially and at risk of running out of propane during the winter months.
The unnamed trooper, who is assigned to the MSP Gaylord Post, recognized the urgency of this situation and took action. To prevent the family's propane tank from running empty, the trooper contacted the State Trooper Outreach Partnership for assistance. STOP then worked directly with the propane company to make sure the tank was filled, keeping the home warm and safe.
MSP shared the heartfelt moment on X, highlighting the recent STOP effort.
"This is what it means to truly serve the community," the MSP Seventh District captioned the post. "The MSP seeks opportunities to going above and beyond the call of duty."
A simple act of compassion made all the difference when it mattered most.
