What to know
- When a caller reported a child’s lemonade stand as a nuisance, Upper Allen Township police found no violations.
- Instead of shutting the stand down, Officer Mark Sanguinito sampled some lemonade and took a photo with the young entrepreneur.
- Sanguinito, who was recently appointed as a school resource officer, was praised for building rapport with local youth.
A woman called Upper Allen Township police Sunday to complain about a girl with a lemonade stand who she claimed was being “annoying and a nuisance.”
The woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, told police the girl was selling lemonade “too close to the road” and asked them to investigate.
After failing to find any broken laws, Officer Mark Sanguinito sampled the lemonade and posed for a selfie with the girl, a post that has since gone viral on the department’s Facebook page. Many commenters left positive remarks about how police handled the report.
Police did not say where in the township the lemonade stand was located.“Thank you to ‘Mrs. Anonymous’ for calling to complain about a kids’ lemonade stand,” Upper Allen police wrote on Facebook. “We responded and enjoyed a refreshing cup while making some new friends!”
Sanguinito was recently chosen as the Mechanicsburg Area School District’s new district resource officer, police said in a Monday news release.
“Officer Sanguinito’s ongoing mission will be to connect with the youth in our community,” police Chief Andrew Parsons said in the release. “He’s clearly off to an amazing start.”
