Va. State Police Troopers Help with Multiple Rescues after Flooding

Virginia State Police troopers, along with search and rescue teams, engaged in multiple water rescue operations overnight in Halifax County.
At 11:53 p.m. Tuesday, state troopers, search and rescue teams and Halifax County deputies located two vehicles in flood waters along North Fork Church Road. One driver was able to exit his vehicle and walk to land, while the other required a search and rescue team. Neither driver sustained injuries.
At 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, rescuers responded to a vehicle in flood waters in the 3000 block of Kingwoods Road. The two occupants did not suffer injuries after first responders rescued them from the roof of the vehicle.
State police, South Boston police, Halifax County rescue crews, and members of the Virginia Volunteer Fire Department assisted in operations.
Recent rainfall caused flooding and multiple road closures in Halifax County. State police said drivers should obey Virginia Department of Transportation signs, along with barrels and barricades which mark high water. The department noted just 12 inches of water can carry away a car.
