A car chase between Massachusetts State Police and a suspect ended Monday morning when the suspect jumped in a backyard pool in Attleboro in an attempt to evade arrest, according to State Police.
The chase began around 8:20 a.m. when a trooper noticed a car on I-495 south that Northborough police had asked other law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for, State Police said in a press release. The driver — 43-year-old Franklin resident Shanna Tognarelli — continued onto I-95 south in an attempt to escape capture.
State Police stopped pursuing Tognarelli when she exited the highway at exit 4B in Attleboro, State Police said. A short time later, Attleboro and State Police and found her driving around a nearby residential neighborhood.
Eventually, Tognarelli drove her car around a house on West Street, got out of her car and jumped into an in-ground pool in the backyard, State Police said. She was arrested at the home without further incident.
Tognarelli is expected to be arraigned in Milford District Court on Monday. State Police referred news outlets to Northborough police for information on why Tognarelli was wanted by police.
