N.Y. Trooper Breaks Ankle in Clash During Probation Warrant Arrest

New York State Police troopers were helping Onondaga County sheriff's deputies with an arrest on a probation warrant when the suspect became combative and injured a trooper.

DEWITT, NY — A trooper’s ankle was broken last week during an arrest, police said.

The altercation happened on March 31, as troopers helped take David M. O’Brien, age 52, of DeWitt, into custody at 3800 New Court Ave. at 6:51 p.m., said Capt. Kevin Reilly, a spokesperson for state police.

Troopers were helping the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office in arresting O’Brien on a probation warrant when he became combative, according to Reilly. Officers gained control of O’Brien but a trooper’s ankle was broken.

O’Brien was charged with obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer, a felony,

At the state police barracks, he remained uncooperative and combative, according to troopers. He is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center.
