A Conroe police officer and his wife were injured during a severe storm in Trinity County Sunday night when their home was damaged.
A Conroe Police Department release said Lt. James "Jimmy" Waller and his wife, Adela, were staying at their Trinity County property when their home was damaged during the storm.
The National Weather Service has not confirmed any tornadoes in Trinity County as of Monday.
Waller, a respected 22-year veteran of the department, suffered critical injuries and remains hospitalized as he receives treatment.
"His recovery will be lengthy and require multiple surgeries," the department said in a release. "Lt. Waller's wife was also injured and has received treatment and remains by his side.
Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace recorded a video Sunday night showing a home in a subdivision in that was completely gone with debris left on the ground. He said there were some reported injuries. It is unclear if the home in the video belongs to the officer.
"This is kind of unheard of in our area, but thankfully everyone got out alive," Wallace said in the Facebook video.
Wallace said that he believed a tornado touched down in the area causing the damage. Roads were flooded and power lines were down, he said.
The Conroe Police Officer's Association has set up a GoFundMe for Waller and his family.
Cards or well wishes can be accepted at the Conroe Police Department's reception desk at 2300 Plantation Drive. The department declined to release any additional information.
