Drunk Driver Hands Canadian Police Booze Gift Card, Not License

Feb. 9, 2022
After officers spotted a woman driving erratically around the campus of an Ontario university, Guelph police were accidentally given an alcohol gift card by the driver during a traffic stop.

A woman in Canada was pulled over by cops for drunk driving.

And she didn’t do herself any favors in this situation, either, as she handed the cops a gift card for booze instead of her driver’s license.

CTV News reports that police in Guelph—a city located in Ontario—spotted a car driving erratically around the campus of a local university at around 2:35 a.m. last Friday. When they pulled the 19-year-old woman over, they asked her—as is part of the protocol—to see her driver’s license.

Instead, she handed over a gift card to the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO), all the while claiming she hadn’t been drinking. A failed breathalyzer test proved otherwise, and it was later revealed her alcohol level was well above the legal limit.

She also smelled like booze, according to the resulting police report, so there’s that.

Global News Canada continues to report that police at last managed to get her actual driver’s license at one point, which they ended up suspending for 90 days after the incident. They also impounded her car for about two weeks.

The Star details how the woman faces charges of impaired driving, and is scheduled to appear in court towards the end of the month.

Whether the cops returned the LCBO gift card back to her wasn’t disclosed.
