LOGANVILLE, Georgia -- A Lawrenceville man accused of trafficking methamphetamine was arrested Monday after authorities said he tried to run over a sheriff’s deputy.
William Long, 30, was apprehended in the parking lot of a Loganville Kroger when multiple Walton County sheriff’s deputies pinned his Ford Mustang convertible with their patrol vehicles.
Long was attempting to escape arrest “even if it meant running over a deputy,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook. It was not clear if any deputies were injured during the incident.
He was arrested on charges of trafficking an illegal substance, aggravated assault, obstruction and interference with government property. Deputies recovered 4.5 ounces of meth and $16,570 cash during his arrest, according to the sheriff’s office.
“When one brings 4.5 ounces of meth into our county with the intentions of selling that poison to our citizens, one must be prepared for the consequences,” the agency said.
Long was being held without bond in the Walton County Jail.
