COLUMBUS, Georgia -- Columbus police say a 27-year-old man injured two dogs by striking them with a PVC pipe, hit one police officer and bit another.
Police say the suspect, Quamae Otrae Bellamy of Columbus, is HIV positive.
According to an official report, Bellamy is in the Muscogee County Jail. Among his charges are cruelty to animals, entering a motor vehicle with intent to commit theft, reckless conduct causing body harm with HIV virus, obstruction of a police officer and criminal trespass.
Around 3:55 p.m. Saturday, Bellamy was seen breaking into a vehicle on Dee Avenue in Oakland Park and was chased on foot by the owner, according to the report.
Bellamy then entered another vehicle and encountered the vehicle owner's dog. He struck the dog several times with a PVC pipe, causing the dog's nose to bleed.
Police say Bellamy fled again on foot. In the backyard of another home on Cornell Ave., he struck a second dog with the pipe, drawing blood.
The report says a police officer caught up with Bellamy in the backyard. The officer pulled out a Taser, but was struck by Bellamy with the pipe and lost control of the device.
Bellamy used the Taser on a second officer, hitting him in the ankle. That officer used another Taser to strike Bellamy in the neck and groin.
Police say the suspect went down and was then placed in handcuffs.
The report says a third officer was bitten while the suspect was in a patrol car. The skin was broken.
The prisoner was taken to Midtown Medical Center where it was discovered he is HIV positive, according to the report.
Bellamy is scheduled to be in Columbus Recorder's Court Monday at 2 p.m.
