A manhunt was launched for a suspected gunman after a Rochester, New York police officer was shot near his face Saturday night.
Officer Jeremy Nash sustained non-life-threatening wounds in the shooting that occurred around 10:43 p.m. near North Street, according to The Democrat and Chronicle.
The 11-year veteran of the force was transported to Rochester General Hospital and is in stable condition.
The Rochester police tactical unit, Irondequoit police, Monroe County Sheriff's deputies and New York State Police assisted in the search.
"Every federal, state, local, county law enforcement partner in this area is helping us now with this operation," Rochester Police Chief Michael Ciminelli said during a news conference.
"When I think about the fact that our officers put on their uniforms every day and go out there to serve and protect this city, they deserve to be able to go home to their families safely," Mayor Lovely Warren said. "This could've ended very differently."
