A Boise, Idaho police officer who was left paralyzed after being shot last year has received an outpouring of support, and now community members have launched an effort to get him back on his Harley.

Cpl. Kevin Holtry has been riding motorcycles his whole life and was shopping for a new one just a few weeks before he was wounded during a manhunt and shootout last November, according to KTVB.

The veteran officer's injuries left him paralyzed from the waist down and one of his legs had to be amputated.

This week, visited High Desert Harley-Davidson in Meridian as the effort to get him a new three-wheeled motorcycle including special modifications is gaining steam.

"The Harley community is very similar to the police community, and the fact that it's this brotherhood and everybody's coming together," Holtry told the news station. "It's great and I can't say enough about them and how happy and ecstatic I am about the possibility of riding again. It's going to be really something special for me "

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise the $65,000 needed to create the unique motorcycle.
