Cincinnati Officer Shot; Suspect Wounded

A Cincinnati police officer was wounded early Sunday morning during an exchange of gunfire with a suspect.

A Cincinnati police officer was wounded early Sunday morning during an exchange of gunfire with a suspect.

The officer, who has not been identified, was responding to a domestic violence call at a Gibert Avenue apartment building when he encountered convicted felon Damion McRae, according to WCPO-TV.

Officials say that McRae shot the officer once in the courtyard of the complex. The officer then returned fire and hit the suspect multiple times.

The injuries sustained by both men are considered to be non-life-threatening and both underwent surgery at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The officer was released from the intensive care unit and was in a regular room before noon Sunday.

The incident is currently under investigation.
