Louisville Metro police officials released body camera video on Monday from a fatal shooting of a suspect Saturday night.
Police Chief Steve Conrad, who had the 11-minute video posted to the department's YouTube channel, said at a press conference that the video shows 32-year-old William Young Jr. holding a metal rod and lunging at officers, according to WLKY-TV.
Officers can be heard in the video yelling "police" before heading up the stairs to find Young hiding.
Fourth Division police officers were called to Oleanda Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Saturday after receiving a 911 call that a stranger had been going into homes on the block.
"The officers continued to announce their presence as they moved about the house, first searching the first floor, then moving to the second to search it," Conrad, stating that when police walked up the stairs to the second floor, the suspect attacked an officer with a metal rod.
That's when the officers shot and killed Young.
"As police officers we hope and pray we never have to use deadly force," Conrad said.
Three officers have been put on administrative leave per department policy.
