A deputy in Rankin County, Mississippi was stabbed with a hypodermic needle while arresting a suspect on Saturday.
Deputies responded to 1739 White Road after receiving a complainant that 39-year-old Don Summerlin attempted to attack a woman and her mother, according to The Clarion-Ledger.
Undersheriff Raymond Duke said that the complaints stated that the man went into the road and appeared to try to hurt himself.
Summerlin left before deputies arrived, but a lieutenant on the shift recognized the car as he passed it en route to the scene and attempted to pull Summerlin over.
After making the deputy think he was going to flee, Summerlin reversed his vehicle and rammed the patrol car. He then resisted arrest as deputies attempted to take him into custody.
A Taser was used on Summerlin and he was handcuffed. At that moment, Summerlin produced a hypdermic needle and stabbed a deputy.
Summerlin admitted to being under the influence of methamphetamines and both the deputy and the suspect were transported to a local hospital to be tested.
Summerlin was charged with two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia and DUI-other.
