A Denver police officer who was struck and dragged by a vehicle almost two years ago returned to duty this week.

Officer John Adsit reported back to work on Wednesday and will be on limited duty as he transitions back into the job he has held for nine years, according to KMGH-TV.

Adsit and two other police officers were on bike patrol in December 2014 while monitoring a student protest on East Colfax Avenue when they were hit and dragged by a car driven by Christopher Booker.

While two of the officer escaped serious injures, Adsit nearly lost his life. He was hospitalized for several months and required more than a dozen surgeries

Booker later pleaded guilty to vehicular assault.

Although Adsit don't remember being hit, city surveillance videos captured the ordeal.

"I really didn't believe what happened that day until I saw the HALO video myself," he told the news station. "I've probably watched that video more than anybody I know."

He now has scars on his hands from the surgeries and still has limited movement in his left arm because of damage to his radial nerve. His left leg has blood flow issues where his femoral artery was severed.

"Mentally, I’m doing really well, and physically I’m pushing myself every day," he said, adding that his faith and his family -- as well as his fellow officers -- have kept him going during his recovery.
