A newly released dashcam video shows an Ohio Highway Patrol trooper being hit by a vehicle last week while making a traffic stop.
Sgt. Jim Smith was talking to a driver on the side of the road on July 29 when a car crashed into his cruiser and struck him, according to WCMH-TV.
Smith was released from the hospital on Aug. 1 and the at-fault driver was uninjured
"All drivers should move over to an adjacent lane when approaching any vehicle with flashing or rotating lights parked on the roadside, according to Ohio law," the department said in a statement. "If moving over is not possible due to traffic or weather conditions, or because a second lane does not exist, motorists should slow down and proceed with caution.”
The Ohio Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident.
