A Springville, Alabama police officer was injured when his patrol car was struck while he was directing traffic on Interstate 59 Sunday evening.
The officer was working traffic control for firefighters who were battling a car blaze at mile marker 155 when the crash occurred around 5:30 p.m., according to AL.com.
Springville Fire Chief Richard Harvey told the news outlet that an oncoming motorist topped the hill and crashed into the officer's vehicle from behind.
The officer was transported to UAB Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The motorist who struck the officer was taken to St. Vincent's hospital for treatment.
