A suspect aimed a stolen car at a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy's vehicle during a pursuit Monday night.

The deputy was injured in the incident that occurred around 6:22 p.m.in the on Orange Avenue, according to a department news release.

Deputies initiated a pursuit of the suspect's vehicle when a deputy in the area for an unrelated call was exiting her patrol vehicle when the suspect accelerated and deliberately rammed her driver's side door, pinning her leg.

Deputies stopped to render aid to the injured deputy and the pursuit was immediately terminated after they lost sight of the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Melvin Williams.

Williams was located on 100 block of North Sycamore Avenue where was a canine unit was deployed and subsequently found the suspect hiding underneath a residence.

The deputy was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The suspect sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was medically treated and returned to the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station for booking.

Williams was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer, Grand Theft Auto, and Felony Evading. His bail was set at $50,000.
