Trooper Using Emoji Tweets to Spread Message
A South Carolina trooper is getting creative with his safety tweets and is gaining a lot of attention while spreading the message.
Trooper Bob Beres told WJZY that he got the idea to post safety messages on his Twitter account after repeatedly seeing people drive around barriers during floods, only to then have to be rescued.
His only problem is how to get people to listen, and that's when he turned to emojis.
"When you tell someone something the same way they lose interest in the message. So we are always trying to come up with different ways to get that message across to the public," he told the news station. "I cultivate a message in my head and I know what emojis in my head I’m going to use and I do it."
The South Carolina Highway Patrol saw value in the trooper's tweeting style and tarted a no drinking and driving emoji campaign.
Now, his safety messages are on billboards across the state.
"This message is universal. My mom is from Hungary. She speaks little English," Beres said. "When I showed her the billboard, she said that means don't drink and drive and I said if my mom can get this anybody can get it."
The trooper says that his goal is to help keep drivers safe on the roads, one emoji message at a time.
