Harris County Precinct 7 Deputy Constable Alden Clopton, who was shot several times after he was ambushed in April, went home Thursday night.

A Harris County, Texas deputy constable, who was shot several times after he was ambushed in April, was released from the hospital Thursday night.

Precinct 7 Deputy Alden Clopton was wounded by a gunman on April 14 when he was suddenly attacked while patroling the Third Ward, according to KPRC-TV.

Clopton was released from the Hermann Red Duke Trauma Institute Thursday following weeks of intensive surgeries.

"It's going to be a recovery period for him, but we are hoping everybody will just pray for him and his family, and I have faith to believe that he's going to do well," Constable May Walker said during his first few weeks in the hospital.

The incident began when Clopton parked his patrol vehicle at the Alabama Store Market on Alabama and Briley around midnight. He was leaning into the vehicle through the opened passenger's side window talking to reserve deputy trainee Anne Glasco when an unknown person approached from behind and shot him.

The gunman fled the scene and is still on the loose.

Doctors removed two bullets that lodged in Clopton's abdomen and one near his heart. They left in a fourth bullet, but were able repair the damage.
