Appleton Police Officer Stephanie Wiener, who was shot with her own gun during a struggle with a suspect over the weekend, went home Tuesday.

An Appleton, Wisconsin police officer who was shot and wounded with her own gun during a struggle with a suspect last week was released from the hospital on Tuesday.

Video released by the Wisconsin Professional Police Association shows the rousing sendoff that Officer Stephanie Wiener received as she exited ThedaCare Regional Medical Center – Neenah, just days after the incident, according to WBAY-TV.

A Good Samaritan, identified as 23-year-old Andrew Maltbey, who helped the officer was also wounded and was released from the hospital on Sunday. Marcus D. Felton shot and killed himself after he gained control of Wiener's gun during the confrontation early Saturday morning.

The incident began late Friday night in the 900 block of South Kensington Drive after police were called to two separate reports of the theft of cigarettes from gas stations.

Wiener was patrolling the area when she spotted a man who matched the suspect description and attempted to stop him. The suspect came at the officer and was able to get hold of her gun before he opened fire, striking her in the hip area.

Two bystanders rushed to help the officer when Felton fired two more rounds, striking Maltbey in the chest area. That's when the suspect turned the gun on himself.

"We thank the community again for the outpouring of support for Mr. Maltbey, Officer Weiner, and the men and women of the Appleton Police Department," Appleton Police Capt. Todd Freeman said in a statement.
