A Florida deputy died after he was taken into custody after being asked to leave a bar on his birthday last week.

Officials said that Lee County Deputy Willard Truckenmiller became "unruly" after being told he would stop being served alcohol after midnight on May 3 at Shores Bar and Grill in Fort Myers, according to The Naples Daily News.

Truckenmiller was celebrating his 32nd birthday with a group of friends when the incident occured.

"At some point around 1:30 a.m., his demeanor changed. They cut him off. He becomes upset because they'd no longer service him, and he becomes unruly," Scott Moorey, an attorney for the bar told the newspaper. "For safety concerns, they locked the door."

The staff called the Lee County non-emergency line around 2 a.m. but even after deputies tried to calm him down, Truckenmiller for about five minutes, he continued to be unruly and disorderly and they took him into custody.

Truckenmiller was placed into an ambulance by paramedics and taken to Lee Memorial Hospital, where he died.

"I had just communicated with him that afternoon as it was his birthday. I am very saddened by this tragic turn of events," Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott said in a statement.

Truckenmiller was a volunteer football coach at Riverdale High School, and a father of two.
