An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper had a close call after a tractor-trailer came barreling into his cruiser.

Sgt. Stewart Shupe was 50 feet away when a massive pileup amid blowing dust occurred on I-10 near San Simon Thursday afternoon, according to KVOA-TV.

Twelve cars and trucks -- including the cruiser -- were involved in the wreck.

"I’ve never had anything that close," Shupe told the news station. "I think training kind of kicks in, I just immediately started checking everybody, seeing if anybody else was hurt."

A rescue truck from the San Simon Fire Department was also totaled in the pileup.

No one was seriously injured.

"When things settled down I called my wife," Shupe said. "When you start thinking about it, it absolutely shakes you up."

This is the second time this week dust has impacted traffic on the same strip of highway.
